Randy Wise Automotive donates books to Hurley Medical NICU

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) – Hurley Medical Center and Hurley Children’s Hospital received a donation of children’s books from Randy Wise Automotive Group to support families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Chris and Elizabeth Wise donated copies of “Niko in the NICU” to the hospital. The couple has personal experience with the NICU as parents of a baby who required specialized care.

The book tells the story of Niko, a baby turtle who overcomes early struggles in the NICU to grow into a happy, healthy turtle. Michigan authors Dylan and Taylor Goodwin wrote the book based on their son Niko’s journey.

Their son was born weighing just 1 pound, 8 ounces and spent about 100 days in the NICU. The story highlights the strength of small patients and the families and care teams who support them.

The donated books will be shared with NICU families at Hurley Children’s Hospital. Hospital officials say the books offer families a way to connect and find strength in stories that mirror their own experiences.
