SIALKOT, Mar 19 (APP):Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Syed Ahtesham Mazhar held a meeting with members of the Air Cargo Agents Association of Pakistan to discuss the growing concerns regarding the recent imposition of ad-hoc charges on export consignments by ground handling agencies.
SCCI expressed its concern over the unilateral decision by Gerry’s dnata to impose additional PKR 50 per KG on export cargo.
The business community is already under immense pressure due to rising production costs, high air freight rates, and tough competition in international markets. The imposition of these additional charges will further increase the cost of exports, making Pakistani products less competitive globally and adding to the financial burden on exporters.
Syed Ahtesham Mazhar said that such unilateral actions not only create uncertainty for exporters but also raise concerns regarding compliance with regulatory frameworks governing airport and cargo operations.
Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry urgently calls upon the Ministry of Aviation Pakistan, Civil Aviation Authority, and all relevant authorities to take immediate notice of this issue and play their facilitative role in reviewing and stopping these unjustified charges, he added.
The export sector is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, and it is imperative to ensure a supportive and cost-effective environment for exporters to sustain and grow in global markets.
He said the SCCI remains committed to protecting the interests of the business community and will continue to raise its voice on all critical issues affecting exporters.
