The Morse High School Shipbuilders beat the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks, 81-57, in Unified basketball, Wednesday, March 11, in a makeup game stemming from a cancellation earlier this season. The Shipbuilders scored first and maintained the lead throughout the game. By halftime, the Shipbuilders were up 44-24.
Off IR and back on the court, senior Chloe Joneth tipped off the match for the Seahawks, Alissa Cogswell for the Shipbuilders. From the small forward position, Joneth racked up 20 points, the most in the game and beating her personal best of 16. Matthew Jackson scored first for the Seahawks, 19 in all including the Seahawks’ only 3-pointer. He took advantage of a couple fast breaks for easy layups, and had several points off rebounds, though he is most accurate from the top of the key.
Caiden Farmer, who scored an amazing 30 points in the game against Hall Dale, played a more relaxed game this time around, scoring eight points, as did Zander Blake. Anthony Angelico played in a limited capacity and scored two points. In the end, the Shipbuilders were unstoppable. Michael Baker, Cogswell and Lili Chandler played excellent matchups and Kassidy Blake’s bank shots were on point.
Team partners Sarah Harris, Ronan Drage, Cole Hyson, Arrabella Hodgdon and Maddie Andreasen offered on-court assistance. The Seahawks are coached by Dacus, Blackman and Thibault. Bingham, Roak and Aiden coach the Shipbuilders. Ed Crocker officiated.
The Seahawks will suit up one more time to take on BRHS faculty and staff on Wednesday, March 25 at 10 a.m., repeating an exhibition game that was popular last year.
Unified basketball is a community-level extension of Special Olympics Maine Unified Championship Club which promotes social inclusion, leadership and friendship for student-athletes with and without disabilities.
