LG Energy Solution unveiled its ‘Energy Territory Expansion’ strategy to break through the electric vehicle chasm (temporary demand stagnation) head-on at ‘InterBattery 2026,’ which opened at COEX in Seoul on March 11. The strategy aims to expand battery applications into new industrial domains, including ESS for AI data centers and dedicated batteries for robots.

LG Energy Solution set up a 540㎡ booth at this exhibition—the largest among participating companies. Under the exhibition theme of ‘Original Innovator, Creating the Future of Energy,’ the booth was organized into five main zones: Hero Zone, Mobility, Energy Infrastructure, Robotics & Drone and Future Technology.

In the Energy Infrastructure Zone, the company prominently displayed the ‘JF2 DC LINK 5.0,’ a grid-scale Energy Storage System (ESS) solution that won the battery category at the ‘InterBattery Awards 2026.’ Based on LFP’s inherent high chemical stability, the system maximizes overall safety by applying a ‘cell-pack-rack level fire propagation blocking structure’ that structurally minimizes the possibility of thermal runaway. Additionally, a calibration-free SOC (State of Charge) algorithm enables continuous operation without separate operational shutdowns, improving uptime and operational efficiency.

The company also unveiled an LFP-based JP6 UPS rack system and a BBU (Battery Backup Unit) solution. The BBU is a backup solution that maintains power for a certain period during outages, sustaining the core functions of equipment and helping systems shut down safely.

In the Mobility Zone, Performance solutions on display included the high-nickel-based ‘46 Series’ and ‘2170 cylindrical cells,’ targeting markets requiring overwhelming driving range, fast charging, and high output, such as sports cars and SDVs (Software-Defined Vehicles).

The Standard solutions featured ‘pouch-type HV Mid-Ni (high-voltage mid-nickel) cells’ and ‘pouch-type LMR (lithium manganese rich) cells’ targeting markets where the balance between performance and cost is key, such as buses and mid-tier sedans. The Affordable solutions showcased pouch-type LFP cells for compact cars and entry-level sedans.

LG Energy Solution is currently co-developing LMR batteries with GM, which maximize economic efficiency by increasing lithium and manganese content, with commercialization targeted for 2028.

The company also exhibited mobility safety technologies, including the ‘multi-stage cooling system’ and ‘No TP (Thermal Propagation) pack solution’—a heat transfer prevention technology applied to pouch-type products—as well as ‘CAS (Cell Array Structure)’ technology applied to cylindrical cells.

The exhibition also introduced battery integrated management solutions based on software and AI diagnostic/prediction technologies, including ‘Better.Re,’ a lifespan care solution that won the CES Innovation Award as the first pure software technology from a battery manufacturer, and the BaaS business models ‘B-lifecare (continuous diagnostics)’ and ‘B.once (one-time evaluation).’

In the Robotics & Drone Zone, the company demonstrated how high-performance cylindrical batteries are utilized in homes and industrial settings through LG Electronics’ home robot ‘LG CLOiD,’ which garnered attention at the recent CES, and Bear Robotics’ autonomous robot ‘Carti100.’

The company also presented broad portfolio expandability into the drone industry through blood transport drones developed in cooperation with K-Drone Alliance, as well as aviation and CubeSat applications.

In the Future Technology Zone, the company showcased a technology portfolio to lead sustainable energy transition, including all-solid-state batteries, bipolar batteries capable of achieving high voltage without connecting multiple cells, and sodium-ion batteries with excellent supply accessibility and low-temperature performance.
