The Shawsheen Tech/Bedford High girls hockey team opened play in the Div. 1 state tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Lowell’s Tsongas Arena against Central Catholic in a preliminary round game.
Seeded 32nd with a record of 11-9, the Rams would advance to face top-seeded Notre Dame Academy on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at the Rockland Ice Arena.
Notre Dame was 13-2-3 on the season.
Shawsheen/Bedford and Central played twice during the regular season with the Rams winning Game 1 on Jan. 3 by a 2-0 score before Central won by a 5-3 score in the rematch on Jan. 29.
Central, seeded No. 33, was 8-8-4 this season.
Boys open Thursday
The Shawsheen Tech boys hockey team, after another impressive regular season that saw the Rams go 17-2-1 overall and win the Commonwealth Athletic Conference championship, opens play in the Div. 3 state tournament on Thursday night at home against Watertown at the Hallenborg Rink in Billerica starting at 7:10 p.m.
The Rams are the fifth seed and would likely play 12th-seeded Westfield with a win over the Raiders.
Watertown, who plays in the Middlesex League, is the 28th seed in the bracket with a 3-17 overall record.
Basketball teams fall one game shy of playoffs
The Shawsheen Tech girls basketball team fell one game shy of the state tournament after finishing the year with a 9-11 record.
The girls were 9-7 after an exciting 47-42 win over Lowell Catholic, but lost their last four games of the campaign against Marblehead, Greater Lowell, Whittier Tech and Greater New Bedford.
The Ram boys also finished 9-11.
Shawsheen had several clutch wins down the stretch of the season over Whittier Tech, Greater Lowell and Worcester Tech.
