In a related agreement, Hanwha Ocean, Ontario Shipyards and Mohawk College have signed a letter of intent to establish a shipbuilding training hub embedded within the Hamilton shipyard.
According to the release, the collaboration will support apprenticeship and co-op pathways and develop specialized credentials aligned with shipyard production needs. Training areas are expected to include welding, electrical, millwright, marine mechanics, robotics, logistics and non-destructive evaluation.
The companies said the initiative is intended to address skilled trades shortages and support long-term shipbuilding capacity in Ontario.
