Freight train derails in Harvey, blocks several crossings

DIXMOOR, Ill. (WLS) — A freight train derailed in south suburban Harvey Friday morning.

CSX said a train derailed at about 3:45 a.m. near 140th Street and Spaulding Avenue in Harvey, with 17 cars off the tracks.

No injuries were reported, and there were no hazmat leaks or spills.

The derailment blocked Lincoln Avenue between Spaulding and 144th, Robey Avenue between 145th and 143rd and Western Avenue between Spaulding and 143rd for hours.

Roads have since been reopened.
