SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – One organization in Springfield wants to make the city a place where the tech industry can thrive.
Springfield Tech Council is a newer organization dedicated to making Springfield a place where technology can be used for civic good and advocating for the tech community.
Along with community partners, it’s hosting Springfield Tech Week from March 23-27 to build connections and strengthen the skills of tech professionals in and around Springfield.
The week’s events include a software development challenge, project showcase, networking, training, and a conference on Wednesday with 700 people expected to attend.
“I think it’s just a strong signal that the industry continues to grow here in Springfield,” said Emily Reed, the executive director of STC. “We’ve seen numbers increase. We had more than 700 at the conference last year, and we expect that again this year and just more involvement by companies. It’s just continuing to grow, and obviously, all of our jobs intersect with tech in some way now, so we just want to continue to be a part of that, strengthening and growing that, and really be seen as a tech hub in our region.”
With the tech industry encompassing so many different things and technology being connected to nearly every job, it’s important to offer something for everyone.
“It does span lots of different areas,” Reed said, “so whether you’re cyber, AI, or IT infrastructure, we have several tracks of course at the conference for that. Our group goes from help desk entry level to CIOs, so there really is something for everybody and a chance for all levels to connect, and that’s just important for mentoring and the longevity of tech in our area.”
Most events throughout the week are free, but some are paid and require pre-registration before you attend. You can find a list of events and how to participate here.
“The tech presence is alive and well and thriving here in the area,” said Reed, “so it’s just important for us to really elevate that community and really put Springfield on the map and strengthen that position that we have in the tech sphere.”
