Sagar Defence Engineering has officially laid the foundation for the world’s first autonomous maritime shipbuilding and systems centre in Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour, Andhra Pradesh. This groundbreaking facility aims to enhance India’s indigenous defence manufacturing and advance maritime technology. With direct sea access, the centre is poised to revolutionize vessel construction, testing, and deployment.
Strategic Location and Vision for Growth
On Thursday, Sagar Defence Engineering marked a significant milestone by laying the foundation stone for its autonomous maritime shipbuilding centre in the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The facility spans 29.58 acres, including 7.58 acres of waterfront land, providing essential access for various maritime operations. This initiative aligns with the state’s vision to strengthen the marine technology ecosystem and foster advanced manufacturing capabilities along the coastline.
Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Human Resources Development, IT, Electronics & Communications, Nara Lokesh, officiated the ceremony. He expressed gratitude to Nikunj Parashar, the founder and CEO of Sagar Defence Engineering, for choosing Andhra Pradesh as the site for this ambitious project. Lokesh emphasized the importance of collaboration between policymakers, bureaucrats, and entrepreneurs in driving India’s growth trajectory. He noted that the centre reflects a commitment to supporting local fishermen and transforming opportunities for coastal communities.
“With India’s extensive 7,500-km coastline, the maritime sector is set to become a major growth driver for our economy,” Lokesh stated. He highlighted that the project is not just about technology but also about enhancing coastal security and supporting the blue economy.

Innovative Future in Maritime Technology
Nikunj Parashar shared his vision for the centre, stating, “At Sagar Defence Engineering, we aim to redefine how maritime systems are designed, built, and operated.” He believes that as global maritime operations increasingly embrace autonomy, this facility will enable India to design, test, and manufacture next-generation unmanned maritime systems domestically.
Parashar emphasized that the support from the Government of Andhra Pradesh is crucial in building a platform that accelerates indigenous innovation and strengthens maritime security. He envisions the centre positioning India as a global hub for autonomous maritime technologies, marking a new chapter in the country’s maritime capabilities.
This landmark project not only signifies a leap forward in defence manufacturing but also underscores the potential for economic growth and technological advancement in India’s maritime sector.
